The
Astronomy Department at Indiana University Bloomington will
host a summer Research Experience for Undergraduates program
for highly motivated students interested in astronomy research.
Students will work with faculty to carry out projects in
observational stellar astronomy using ground-based photometric
and spectroscopic data.
Projects include:
*Photometry of variable stars including cataclysmic variables
and Algol-type binaries.
*The determination of the properties of star clusters from
cluster color magnitude diagrams.
*Studies of the composition of stars with planets. The program
will include a trip to the Kitt Peak National Observatory
in Tucson, AZ, where students will observe on the WIYN 0.9-m
telescope as well as tour Kitt Peak and other Tucson astronomical
facilities. While in residence in Bloomington, students
will also participate in seminars, field trips, and social
events.
