OUT OF STATE UNIVERSITY UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES

University of Connecticut

Overview:

Many undergraduates at UConn are currently engaged in research programs under the thoughtful guidance of faculty mentors, but seldom are the students given the opportunity to present their work in a public manner. To provide such opportunities, the University of Connecticut Honors Program has sponsored for the past five years
Frontiers in Undergraduate Research, an exhibition in which undergraduates engaged in research from a variety of disciplines can present their work publicly. Last year, 60 posters ranging from journalistic studies to molecular genetics were displayed in the Student Union, coinciding with the University Open House. Response to the exhibition from faculty, students and campus visitors was overwhelmingly positive.

The University of Connecticut is listed as the top public research institution in this part of the country. Our faculty is gifted and well known for their discoveries. Undergraduate Research places our students in extremely valuable situations. You will have the opportunity to work closely with scholars who are experts in your interest area. You will gain first-hand experience in your subject. You will be the recipient of an invaluable mentor by establishing a stronger relationship with a faculty member. You will build a very impressive resume and academic record, which will introduce you to the graduate school or position of your choice. Above all, you will learn life long lessons that only an experience like this can give you.

Eligibility:

- Any undergraduate or team of undergraduate students involved in an original project work, that has progressed to the point that permits communication of its essence, is encouraged to submit an abstract.
- The Frontiers selection committee, composed of faculty and staff representing nine departments across campus will evaluate abstracts.
- Up to 60 will be accepted for presentation at the poster exhibition during the Spring Semester in the Wilbur Cross Building.
Please note! If an eligible undergraduate will graduate in December, or will otherwise be away from campus during the spring semester, their work can still be submitted. If their abstract is accepted for presentation, then the advisor and/or peer, familiar with the work, will be required to attend the poster exhibition.
