II. Oral Communication from the Public

There was no oral communication from the public at today's meeting.

III. New Business

A. Joint Meeting of MCAS, DCC, & ASB to Discuss Requests for New Faculty Hires

Members of the Senate and the DCC were provided with copies of the requests for new faculty prior to today's meeting. Lee commended those who submitted applications, noting that the requests were well presented, and she expressed her hope that the process will work well this year. President McKay presented the format to be used for today's meeting; those present to support their requests were each given five minutes to present and respond to questions. The group will then conduct an open discussion.

Guests present spoke in support of their requests and at the end of presentations, issues of concern were listed, prioritized, and discussed briefly as time allowed. Lee advised that the ranking form will be distributed as soon as possible and must be returned to her by Monday, February 8th. The Division Chair Council will meet on that date to discuss the tallied ranking; the members of the senate and ASB are invited to attend and join in the discussion. The recommendations will be presented at the Mission College Academic Senate on February 11th. Lee stated that an adjustment to the timeline will be made if necessary.

IV. Information & Announcements (College & District)

A. The Senators were invited to attend the Division Chair Council meeting scheduled for Monday, February 8, 1999, to discuss recommendations for new faculty hires. The recommendations are to be presented to the Academic Senate for further discussion and approval at the February 11, 1999, meeting of the Mission College Academic Senate.
