The Mission College Academic Senate, together with the West Valley College Academic Senate, form the District Academic Senate, to represent the faculty on academic and professional matters.
The Academic Senate at Mission College is charged with representing all full-time and part-time faculty members in academic and educational matters. The shared governance provisions of AB 1725 have greatly increased the role of the Academic Senate in the formation of college policy, and specify eleven broad areas in which the Board of Trustees has adopted a policy to rely primarily on the advice of the Academic Senate. The Senate also consults with the collective bargaining unit (ACE) on work-related issues to ensure a uniform faculty voice, and with the Classified Senate.
The Senate President represents the Senate on most shared governance committees and is elected by the faculty at large. Recommendations from the Senate are regularly communicated to the Chancellor, the college President, college governance committees, district council and the Board of Trustees.
Senators representing each division, including Library, Counseling and Learning Services, are elected by the full-time faculty in the division. Senators representing the part-time faculty are elected by the associate faculty at large.

Please extend your congratulations to Catherine Cox, Mission College
Librarian, who has been elected to serve as the President of the
Mission College Academic Senate for the upcoming 2006/07 academic year,
effective June 1, 2006.
Cathy has been an active and vocal Senator on the MC Academic Senate
for the last three years. As you know, this District is
experiencing some very challenging issues in which the Academic Senate
is playing a very significant role. Cathy and the Academic Senate
will continue to need your complete support as these issues are
resolved. Cathy will be presiding over a well informed, engaged,
committed and excellent Academic Senate. Her strength is in the
Academic Senate and the Senate's strength is in the faculty.
Please join me in wishing Cathy a successful term as President of the
Mission College Academic Senate.
Alex Braun, President, MC Academic Senate
