2.     Approval of Agenda

Added PE*004J.2 under 4.a (New Courses – First Reading) and ESL*930LS, ESL*930RV, ESL*930GW, ESL* 960LS and ESL*970LS under 4.c (Revision of Courses).  Betty requested we honor guests attending by moving 4.b. above 4.a. and their respective courses first.  It was MSC (Charland/Zummo) to approve the agenda.

3.     Approval of Summary Minutes – October 28, 2002

It was MSC (Dworak/Zummo) to approve the summary minutes of October 28, 2002.

 

4.     Course Approvals

a.     New Courses – First Reading

(1)       CIS*085A – Develop PL/SQL Program Units – 3.0 Units
Revised lab and lecture units.  Jason stated that CA has two classes with this subject—has this course been articulated with the CA department?  This needs to be articulated with CA department.

(2)       ESL*966 – Applied Grammar and Editing – 2.0 Units
The English-ESL collaboration committee will be meeting on Wednesday to discuss this course.  Kara updated the course outlines with verbiage agreed upon by Jonathan Brennan and Jody Hacker. 

(3)       MUSIC*003AA – Musicianship – 4.0 Units
This course was inactivated in 1991 by mistake.  Discussion ensued about reactivating the course but Jennifer explained it is not possible to reactivate an inactive course.  To alleviate the problem, the course number was changed from MUSIC*003A to MUSIC*003AA. 

(4)       MUSIC*003BB – Musicianship – 4.0 Units
This course was inactivated in 1991 by mistake.  To alleviate the problem, the course number was changed from MUSIC*003B to MUSIC*003BB.  Reviewed course outline and made appropriate changes.

(5)       MUSIC*030C – Beginning Piano – 1.0 Unit
Keith will review the textbook information and will bring to next CRC meeting.

(6)       MUSIC*031C – Intermediate Piano – 1.0 Unit
Keith will check the intended lab and lecture units and will bring to next CRC meeting.

(7)       PE*004J.2 – Fitness, Competitive Athlete – 0.5 Unit
This new course is exactly like the PE*004J course but only offered as 0.5 Units rather than 1.0 Unit. 

b.     New Courses – Second Reading

(1)       ENGL*966 – Applied Grammar/Punctuation – 2.0 Units
It was MSC (Ensminger/Charland) to approve ENGL*966 as a new course.

(2)       ESL*950RW – Intermediate Reading & Writing – 5.0 Units
It was MSC (Charland/Dworak) to approve ESL*950RW as a new course.

(3)       ESL*960G – High Intermediate Grammar – 3.0 Units
It was MSC (Charland/Dworak) to approve ESL*960G as a new course.

(4)       ESL*960RW – High Intermediate Reading & Writing – 5.0 Units
It was MSC (Charland/Dworak) to approve ESL*960RW as a new course.

(5)       ESL*970G – Advanced Grammar Review & Editing – 3.0 Units
It was MSC (Charland/Dworak) to approve ESL*970G as a new course.

(6)       ESL*970RW – Advanced Reading & Writing – 5.0 Units
It was MSC (Charland/Dworak) to approve ESL*970RW as a new course.

(7)       FRNCH*058A – Immersion French – 3.0 Units
Anna Brichko was present to defend this course and presented the book the students would be required to read prior to attending the class as well as the workbook they would have to complete.  There are different levels of materials within the main textbook.  Discussion ensued about the contact hours and units requested.  It was decided the hours necessary would be determined using independent study method under General Information.  Revised objectives to better represent the different levels of student knowledge.  The instructor will create the textbook for each academic year.  Revised the critical thinking assignments and removed the fee listed in the catalog description.  Reviewed Writing Assignments and Outside Assignments.  It was MSC (Dworak/Moyers) to approve FRNCH*058A as a new course. 

(8)       JPNS*099W – Second Year Japanese Language – EXP – 3.0 Units
Paperwork was not received by the deadline.  Will remain on the agenda.

(9)       MUSIC*001 – Music History & Literature – 3.0 Units
It was MSC (Ensminger/Zummo) to approve MUSIC*001 as a new course contingent on Changed outline to reflect addition to GE list.  Jennifer receiving the completed paperwork (missing Addition to Major and Addition to General Education forms).

(10)    MUSIC*002 – Music History & Literature – 3.0 Units
Changed outline to reflect addition to GE list.  It was MSC (Ensminger/Dworak) to approve MUSIC*002 as a new course contingent on Jennifer receiving the completed paperwork (missing Addition to Major and Addition to General Education forms).

(11)    PE*040 – Dance Appreciation – 3.0 Units
It was MSC (Dworak/Ensminger) to approve PE*040 as a new course.

(12)    SPAN*058A – Immersion Spanish – 3.0 Units

These are revisions and not administrative changes because the pre-requisites were changed.  It was MSC (Ensminger/Retterath) to approve the ESL revisions as a group.

(6)       PE*004J – Fitness, Competitive Athlete – 1.0 Unit
Added Coaching as a discipline and revised the catalog description.  The textbooks need to be revised.  It was MSC (Dworak/Charland) to approve the PE*004J revision contingent on Jeff Nelson correcting the textbook formatting.

b.     There will be a special CRC meeting on Wednesday, 11/06/02 at 1:30 pm to accommodate second readings for new courses that were submitted by the deadline.

c.     Betty stated once again that it is imperative for CRC Representatives to take a more active role with constituents and shepherd them through the process.
