2.     Approval of Agenda

Dianne suggested reviewing the Second Readings first, the Revision of Courses second and the First Readings last.  Melanie stated the title of BUS*061 is Business & Society rather than Business & Safety.  Jennifer received Hoan’s email about the paperwork.  These notes are reflected in the minutes below.    It was MSC (Zummo/Coleman) to approve agenda with revisions.

 

3.     Approval of Summary Minutes – October 20, 2003
It was MSC (Ensminger/Dworak) to approve the summary minutes of October 27, 2003.

4.     Course Approvals

a.     New Courses – Second Reading

(1)       FDRST*079 – Introduction to Wine and Food Pairing – 3.0 Units
Harriett added the age prerequisite and believes there may be a way to screen underage students (check with AJ department/courses at West Valley).    It was MSC (Dworak/Wisner) to approve FDRST*079 as a new course.

(2)       MUSIC*007A – Harmony and Musicianship III – 4.0 Units
Don stated this would not be acceptable as a transferable GE course to UC and CSU because it is too specific.  Don would like someone to speak to the department about addition to GE list, Anna volunteered to speak to them.  It was MSC (Szabados/Dworak) to approve MUSIC*007A as a new course.

(3)       MUSIC*007B – Harmon and Musicianship IV – 4.0 Units
It was MSC (Zummo/Moyers) to approve MUSIC*007B as a new course.

(4)       PSYCH*002A – Experimental Psychophysiology – 4.0 Units
It was MSC (Dworak/Moyers) to approve PSYCH*002A as a new course.

(5)       PT*041 – Developmental Disabilities: Etiologies and Classifications – 2.5 Units
This item will be postponed until the requested changes are submitted.

(6)       PT*045 – Beginning Pharmacology, Part 2 – 1.5 Units
This item will be postponed until the requested changes are submitted.  

(7)       VN*040 – Medical-Surgical Nursing Theory – 4.0 Units
It was MSC (Ensminger/Moyers) to approve VN*040 as a new course.

This item will be postponed until the requested changes are submitted.

The revision was to remove the ESL placement test prerequisite at the request of the LATC.  It was MSC (Dworak/Moyers) to approve revisions to ESL*901-906.

(9)       JPNS*002 formerly JPNS*001B – Second Semester Japanese (Elementary Level) – 5.0 Units
It was MSC (Ensminger/Coleman) to approve revisions to JPNS*002.

There was still concerns about the length of the catalog description.  The detail of the description would be very helpful to keep.  This item will remain on the agenda until the proposer can identify the description they would like to use.

The textbooks were revised to be in the correct format.  There will be no request for GE.  This course will go forward for second reading.

(7)       CIS*184 – Computer Lab: Introduction to Data Structures Using Java – 1.0 Unit
The catalog description was difficult to understand and the committee revised to make it better.  The writing and outside assignments need to be reviewed and revised.  This course will go forward for second reading.

(8)       CNET*044 – Network Management Fundamentals – 3.0 Units
These are part of a huge overhaul of the CET program.  Roy Goody will check with Hung Pham on the units and hours.  The Admin Changes for courses listed under Advisories on this course need to be reviewed/approved before they can be listed as Advisories on this course.  The Cultural Pluralism needs to be changed and the CNET major has not been approved.  This course will go forward for second reading.

(9)       CNET*045 – Introduction to LAN/WAN Design – 3.0 Units
Roy Goody will check with Hung Pham on the units and hours.  The Admin Changes for courses listed under Advisories on this course need to be reviewed/approved before they can be listed as Advisories on this course.  The Cultural Pluralism needs to be changed and the CNET major has not been approved.  This course will go forward for second reading.
