2.   Approval of Agenda

Kara stated that ESL must renumber all of its courses to reflect the new status of the courses.  She is requesting CRC accept the ESL changes as Administrative Changes.  Betty suggested that Kara change the number on the Admin Change form and note that changing the number also removed the degree applicability.  Kara also stated that Datatel Colleague would not allow courses to be considered prerequisites and co-requisites.  Alex agrees that the committee will approve the action, and technology would then be dealt with.  Lynn requested we add the Psychiatric Technician Degree & Certificate revision to the agenda.  Alex suggested we change the order of the agenda by bringing forward the Future Agenda items (b-f) under Approval of Summary Minutes.  He also suggested we move Future Agenda Items A under New Business.  It was MSC (Zummo/Charland) to approve agenda as revised.

3.   Approval of Summary Minutes – September 23, 2002

Kara stated that under 6.a., the fifth bullet should read “Kara suggested that we might use the experimental course procedure for such new courses.”  It was MSC (Charland/Retterath) to approve the summary minutes of September 23, 2002 as revised.

4.   Future Agenda

a.     Review Curriculum Deadlines
Electronic forms need to be submitted to Betty by the Wednesday prior to the Tech Review meetings.  For a new course to be offered in Summer/Fall 2003, it must be reviewed in Tech Review no later than the 10/14/02 meeting.  It must be approved by CRC no later than the 11/4/02 meeting. Alex stated we do have permission from the Board to take information to them more than once per semester.  As a reminder, new courses have two readings; revisions and administrative changes have only one reading.  Distance Learning course outlines only have one reading since the course has already been approved.

b.    CIS*099 – Client-Side Web Programming – 3.0 Units {recommend new course, not experimental}
Betty Ensminger contacted Kam Verma.  The CIS department is still discussing what they will do with this course.

c.     PT*068 – Medical Surgical Nursing Theory – 7.0 Units {revision, missing course outline}
Department is in the process of putting the outlines on the new form along with several other courses.

d.    SOC*002 – Social Problems – 3.0 Units {revision, revision form did not go thru Tech Review}
The revision form was received and will be reviewed at the 10/14 Tech Review meeting.

e.     VN*059A – Beginning Pharmacology, Part 1 – 1.5 Units {revision, missing course outline}
Department is in the process of putting the outlines on the new form along with several other courses.

f.     CET*079 – Advanced Software Design – 3.0 Units (Revisions to Catalog & Schedule Descriptions) {missing admin change form}
The CET department will be making major revisions so they are withdrawing this request.

5.   Course Approvals

a.    New Courses – First Reading

(1)       ENGL*066 – Applied Grammar/Punctuation – 2.0 Units

Reviewed course outline.  Changed Advisory to “Eligibility for READ 053”.  We have not received the “Outline of Topics to be Addressed.”  The textbooks format is incorrect.  Discussion ensued about the transferability and level of this course.  Dianne questioned the Critical Thinking Assignments statement.  The proposer needs to decide about the degree applicability of this course.  Betty will follow-up.  There are many questions that need to be answered before CRC can send this for a second read.

(2)       ART*011 – The History of Modern Design – 3.0 Units
Reviewed course outline.  Under Prerequisites, changed to “Eligibility for ENGL 108A.”

(3)       GDES*011 - The History of Modern Design – 3.0 Units
Reviewed course outline.  Under Prerequisites, changed to “Eligibility for ENGL 108A.”

b.   New Courses – Second Reading

c.    Revision of Courses

(1)       VN*055A1 – Introduction to Medical Surgical Clinical – 6.0 Units
Only change was changing prerequisite.  It was MSC (Charland/Szabados) to approve revisions to VN*055A1.

d.   Administrative Changes

(1)       CA*031 – Advanced Word Processing – 3.0 Units

Revised catalog description by removing specific word processing wording.

(2)       CA*030A – Introduction to Word Processing – 3.0 Units

Revised catalog description by removing specific word processing wording.

6.   Certificates

a.    New Certificates

None

b.   Revision to Certificates

(1)       Vocational Nursing Degree & Certificate – 55.0 Units
It was MSC (Ensminger/Szabados) to approve the revisions to the VN Degree and Certificate.

(2)       Psychiatric Technician Degree & Certificate -
It was MSC (Ensminger/Zummo) to approve the revisions to the PT Degree and Certificate.

Dianne brought up the subject

7.   New Business

Pre-requisite/Co-requisite  - Kara explained the situation about Datatel Colleague not allowing courses to serve as both pre- and co-requisites.  Harriett Robles at WV has been researching this.  Colleague allows you to add a pre-req and gives the option of enforcing a co-req.  Dianne states that currently the only way to do this is to educate counselors and A&R up front explaining this unique situation.  We may need to have a form made up.  CRC should approve the course the way it is pedagogically sound.  It was MSC (Dworak/Charland) that CRC support pedagogy on the READ 961, ENGL 905 and the new ESL courses and the technological aspects will be worked out later.

8.   Old Business

None

9.   Adjournment
Meeting was adjourned at 3:31 p.m.
