a. New Courses – First Reading
(1)
GDES*048
– Intermediate Web Animation – 3.0 Units
Anna explained the department has been offering GDES*047 as a beginning course
in Web Animation. The students are
ready for the next level. Added
READ*053 under advisories. Removed
the last sentence of the catalog course description. Anna will email updated textbook information and major
information so Jennifer will copy the new information into the course outline. Committee reviewed course outline,
course will go forward for second reading.
Kara noticed Thanh Nguyen was in attendance to discuss the
Vietnamese courses. It was MSC
(Moyers/Zummo) to move the review of VIET*001B and VIET*011B up in the agenda.
(2)
VIET*001B
– Beginning Vietnamese – 5.0 Units
Discussion ensued about the repeatability of the course. Don stated that if a student receives a
non-standard grade (anything by an A, B, or C), the course would be coded as a
repeat but the grade received the second time would replace the first received
grade. Discussion ensued about the
initial verb on the student course objectives and revised as necessary. Committee agreed it would be okay to
leave the bullets under the outline of topics. Committee reviewed course outline, course will go forward
for second reading.
(3)
VIET*011B
– Vietnamese Laboratory – 0.5 Units
Corrected the total units and hours by arrangement. The rationale for repeatability was added. Thanh will check with the Foreign

Ken Colson and Christina Oborn were sent to Washington DC to receive the
materials and requirements so we can start offering this program in a contract
educational setting. We are
pursuing a grant that would allow us to offer this course through the
college. Jeff Cormier is
researching two schools that currently offer certificates and diplomas in this
area. Anna suggested last
week’s Business week be reviewed since it discussed preparation of
curriculum and this area. Contract
Ed will prepare their own curriculum and probably start this program right
away. Chris recommends we pursue
the option of fast-tracking the curriculum for this program.
