2.     Approval of Agenda

Jennifer received Hoan’s email about the paperwork.  These notes are reflected in the minutes below.  The date of the summary minutes should be revised from March 11, 2003 to March 10, 2003.  The ‘DL’ designation should have been listed on items 4.a.11 and 4.a.12.  It was MSC (Zummo/Moyers) to approve the agenda as revised.

The publisher for the Jack Hudson textbook is missing.  Committee reviewed course outline, course will go forward for second reading.

(2)       ESL*930GW – High Beginning Grammar and Writing – DL – 3.5 Units
All of the ESL courses are very much the same.  These are distance learning possibilities for the future.  The major differences are under assignments and the hours/units.  The committee agreed to review the first course and do a blanket review on the rest.  Committee reviewed course outline, course will go forward for second reading.

The course outline was not distributed with the meeting email so the committee read the outline thoroughly.  Don feels we should not include “equivalent experience” under prerequisites since this is acknowledged on the prereq challenge form.  The committee removed the phrase.  The first names were missing on the textbooks, Anna will contact proposer.  Don does not think it will be acceptable as a GE course.  He also felt the needs assessment does not answer the question of the college being able to support such a course.  The needs assessment should justify the needs/market in the community.  Committee reviewed course outline, course will go forward for second reading.

Committee added Biological Sciences under the discipline area.  It was MSC (Ensminger/Moyers) to approve ANTHR*001L.

Paperwork was not submitted for CIS*049A.  Will remain on the agenda.

(3)       LIB*910 – Library Basic Skills Learning/Relearning – 0.0 Unit

The outline is now on the new form and the textbooks have been updated.  The cultural pluralism was also added to the outline since this statement was not a requirement on the old form.  Committee added Biological Sciences under the discipline area and under the GE category.  It was MSC (Moyers/Coleman) to approve revisions for ANTHRO*001.

(5)       CIS*031A – Fundamentals of Microsoft VB.Net – 3.0 Units
Paperwork was not submitted for CIS*031A.  Will remain on the agenda.

(6)       CIS*170A – Fundamental of Microsoft VB.Net – 1.0 Unit
Paperwork was not submitted for CIS*170A.  Will remain on the agenda.

(7)       MUSIC*006A – Musicianship – 4.0 Units

Committee revised the cultural pluralism statement to correct the grammar.  It was MSC (Coleman/Retterath) to approve revisions for PT*032 (formerly PT*069).

d.     Administrative Changes

(1)       CET*060 – The Technology of Silicon Valley – 3.0 Units
Yolanda confirmed with Roy Goody that there were no additional changes made to the course.  It was MSC (Ensminger/Coleman) to approve administrative changes for CET*060.

(2)       ESL*970PL (now ESL*970AR) – Advanced Pronunciation and Listening – 3.0 Units
It was MSC (Dworak/Coleman) to approve administrative changes for ESL*970AR (formerly ESL*970PL).

e.     Inactivations

(1)       ESL*065 – Advanced Grammar and Editing for the Workplace – 3.0 Units
Kara explained the ESL department converted the curriculum from this course and created another course last semester.  ESL*065 no longer conforms to the numbering system.  It was MSC (Dworak/Coleman) to approve the inactivation for ESL*065.
 

5.     Certificates/Degrees

a.    New Certificates/Degrees

(1)       Java Programming Certificate – 17 Units
Paperwork was not submitted for the Java Programming Certicicate.  Will remain on the agenda.

b.     Revision to Certificates/Degrees

(1)       Psychiatric Technician Certificate – 55.5 Units
Discussion ensued about the absence of CPR requirement.  Lynn will check into the proper wording and best way to add a CPR requirement to the certificate.  Committee tabled further review and approval of this revision.

(2)       Vocational Nursing Certificate – 52.0 Units
It was MSC (Moyers/Coleman) to approve revisions to the Vocational Nursing Certificate.

 

6.     New Business

a.     Betty would like the minutes to reflect that Hoan has spent several hours during the weekends preparing for the CRC meetings.  The committee commends Hoan for his hard work and Jennifer for her help.

b.     Don requested the committee revisit the CSU American Institutions item at the next meeting.  We will begin adding this information as revisions to courses.

c.     Lynn requested the CRC meeting schedule for 2003-2004 be discussed at the next meeting.
