IMPORTANT
MESSAGE FROM THE
MISSION COLLEGE
ACADEMIC SENATE
SUBJ: CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS
* MCAS Information Competency Task Force
Last year the
Mission College Academic Senate passed a resolution recommending that
Information Competency be included as a proficiency requirement for
graduation. The Mission
College Academic Senate is now seeking members for this task force.
This committee
will be charged with 1) working with department faculty to determine how and
where to infuse information competency into existing curriculum, especially
required courses like English 1A and Communications Studies 1, 4, or 15 (or to
supplement existing curriculum with library information competency workshops);
2) adapting the existing proficiency exam to match Mission's library resources;
and 3) creating a structure to track students' progress in meeting the
proficiency requirement.
Because of the
amount of work involved, it is anticipated that this committee, chaired by a
member of the Academic Senate, will meet minimally twice a month for the rest
of the academic year.
Ideally the committee should include members across the disciplines, especially
English and Communications Studies; a librarian; a counselor; and an ASB
representative.
If you are
interested in serving on this task force, please contact the Academic Senate
Office (Ext. 5413) or via e-mail, NO LATER THAN NOON, THURSDAY, OCTOBER
2, 2003.
Alex Braun,
President
MC Academic Senate
