Mission College Welcomes New Vice President

On Monday, June 23rd, Mission College in Santa Clara welcomed Norma Ambriz–Galaviz as its new Vice President of Instruction. A community college graduate herself, Ambriz–Galaviz brings 23 years of instructional and administrative experience to her new position at Mission College.
Coming from Chabot College in Hayward, Norma most recently served as that college’s Dean of Social Sciences, with prior positions as Dean of Special Programs and Services, Dean of Mathematics and Computer Science, and Dean of Academic Services. In addition, Ambriz–Galaviz is a former Psychology instructor. She has earned an A.A. degree from Hartnell College in Administration of Justice, an M.S. from San Diego State University in Educational Counseling, and was awarded her doctorate in Organizational Leadership from the University of La Verne.
"Norma is universally recognized by her colleagues for her leadership, interpersonal and communications skills, and her expertise in enrollment management, budget and curriculum," says Dr. Harriett Robles, President of Mission College. "I have heard nothing but praise for Norma's collaborative management style, her positive relations with faculty and staff, her creativity, resourcefulness, and planning skills. Most important, she is dedicated to improving student learning and success." Robles added.
Dr. Ambriz–Galaviz states, "I'm very proud and honored to be joining Mission College. Ambriz–Galaviz replaces John Williams, interim V.P. of Instruction. She lives in Hayward with her husband, Felix Galaviz, one of the founders of the nationally recognized Puente Program, and their two children, Emilio and Marisol.
Mission College is located in Santa Clara, California, and is part of the West Valley–Mission Community College District.
