AMATYC Competition

Each year, Mission College students participate in a mathematics competition sponsored by the AMATYC Student Mathematics League. The department awards $700 in scholarships to the top five finishers.

The "Avanzar" Project

In mid-2004, Mission College was awarded $2.7 million from Title V funds of the Deptartment of Education for a project titled "Improving Access and Success for Hispanic and Other Underserved Students". The math department figures prominently in this project, which has been named "Avanzar". Instructor Rick Hobbs is our Team Leader for this project, and he has put together an extensive list of relevant resources.

As part of our Title V initiative, the Mission College Mathematics Department is pleased to announce the launch of MAPS: the Math Achievement Pathway to Success".

Student Learning Outcomes

As part of the college's overall accreditation renewal effort, the math department is in the process of developing student learning outcomes (SLO) statements. The department developed its program-level SLO statement during the Spring 2005 semester. SLO statements for individual courses are being developed on an ongoing basis.
