Calculators: You may use a scientific calculator on the midterm and on the quizzes.  You may not use your cell phone as a calculator.  No graphing calculators are allowed.

Note-cards: On the midterm, you may use a single 4 inch by 6 inch note-card. You may write on both sides. No note-cards are allowed on in class quizzes.

 Course Outcomes

 

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

 

1.   Develop, interpret and perform operations on algebraic expressions, functions and equations.

2.   Apply algebraic vocabulary, symbols, graphs and/or data tables to reading, interpreting and solving algebraic problems.

3.   Demonstrate critical thinking in the problem-solving process that involves both symbolic and real-world application problems.

4.   Demonstrate the skills to communicate mathematics clearly and confidently.

 

THE RULES

1. You are expected to come to all class meetings on time and participate actively in class. Class participation will count favorably toward your grade.  You should try to speak up and ask as many questions as possible.  Do not be afraid to speak.  There is no such thing as a dumb question.

2. You are expected to show respect for others in class at all times. Please be polite and don’t engage in social talk during lecture because it makes it hard for me and other students to concentrate.

3.  Homework: It will be assigned at every class meeting and you should spend lots of time on it. Homework is done online using MY MATH LAB.  To register, go to www.coursecompass.com

4. You are expected to exercise academic honesty. Cheating will not be tolerated. If you are caught cheating, you may be given an F grade for the course

5.  No make-ups are given for the midterm or for the quizzes.  The midterm and quizzes  may NOT be taken early either.  If you are absent on the day of the midterm or quiz, you will be given a ZERO for that assignment. 

6.  Cellphones: keep all cell phones turned OFF or on SILENT MODE.

7.  Absences:  Attendance is taken every day. If you have get 3 UNEXCUSED ABSENCES you may be dropped from the class

8.  Emergency preparedness: in the event the school is closed due to an emergency, I will get in touch by email and advise you how to continue your class study until the school re-opens.

GRADING

NOTE: Unless you requested to take the class for Credit/No credit, you are taking this class for a letter grade.

ONLINE HOMEWORK/ONLINE AND IN CLASS QUIZZES counts 50%.  

Homework will be done online using My Math Lab and it will have deadlines.

1 midterm EXAM counts 20% of grade.  It will be taken in class and will be closed notes and closed book.  You can use a scientific calculator.

FINAL EXAM COUNTS 30%.

YOUR MIDTERM SCORE WILL BE REPLACED BY YOUR FINAL EXAM SCORE, IF THE FINAL EXAM SCORE IS HIGHER


PLEASE NOTE: 

1. NO MAKEUPS ALLOWED FOR QUIZZES OR MIDTERM.

2. ALL QUIZZES AND MIDTERM MUST BE TAKEN AT THE ASSIGNED TIME.

3. NO EXCEPTIONS FOR ANY REASON.
