Calculators: You may use a scientific calculator on the midterm and on the quizzes.  You may not use your cell phone as a calculator.  No graphing calculators are allowed.

Note-cards: On the midterm, you may use a single 4 inch by 6 inch note-card. You may write on both sides. No note-cards are allowed on in class quizzes.

Math 3A (Calculus 1) Student Learning Outcomes Statement

Course Outcomes

 

Students successfully completing Math 3A will be able to:

1.    Apply the concepts of  limits and their properties
2.    Demonstrate knowledge and comprehension of the process of differentiation.
3.    Apply differentiation to applications like graphing, optimization, etc
4.    Demonstrate knowledge and comprehension of the process of integration.

 

THE RULES

1. You are expected to come to all class meetings on time and participate actively in class. Class participation will count favorably toward your grade.  You should try to speak up and ask as many questions as possible.  Do not be afraid to speak.  There is no such thing as a dumb question.

2. You are expected to show respect for others in class at all times. Please be polite and don’t engage in social talk during lecture because it makes it hard for me and other students to concentrate.

3.  Homework: It will be done online using WEBASSIGN online learning environment. Please go to www.webassign.net to register. You will need a valid credit card in order to pay for online access.  If you purchased a new textbook that came  bundled with web assign access, then you will have an access code that you need to enter online when you register.

4. You are expected to exercise academic honesty. Cheating will not be tolerated. If you are caught cheating, you may be given an F grade for the course

5.  No make-ups are given for the midterm or for the quizzes.  The tests and quizzes  may NOT be taken early either.  If you are absent on the day of the midterm or quiz, you will be given a ZERO for that assignment. 

6.  Cellphones: keep all cell phones turned OFF or on SILENT MODE.

7.  Absences:  Attendance is taken every day. If you have get 3 UNEXCUSED ABSENCES you may be dropped from the class

8. Emergency preparedness:  in the event of an emergency and the campus is closed, I will email you a study plan so that you can continue your studies until the campus re-opens.

GRADING

NOTE: Unless you requested to take the class for Credit/No credit, you are taking this class for a letter grade

WebAssign HW and Quizzes count 50%.

In class Quizzes: counts 20% These may be given at anytime, without notice.

1 midterm EXAM counts 20% .  It will be taken in class and will be closed notes and closed book.  You can use a scientific calculator.

FINAL EXAM COUNTS 30%

MIDTERM AND FINAL EXAM DATES:  see online calendar

YOUR MIDTERM SCORE WILL BE REPLACED BY YOUR FINAL EXAM SCORE, IF THE FINAL EXAM SCORE IS HIGHER

 

PLEASE NOTE: 

1. NO MAKEUPS ALLOWED FOR QUIZZES OR MIDTERM.

2. ALL QUIZZES AND MIDTERM MUST BE TAKEN AT THE ASSIGNED TIME.

3. NO EXCEPTIONS FOR ANY REASON.
