While this page is divided into "outcomes" and "assessments," these to ideas go together: SLOs must include an assessment component and assessments are based on SLOs. Therefore most of these websites include information on both.

Most institutions have an assessment department that deals with helping faculty develop student learning outcomes and the corresponding assessment techniques. Thus many of the links correspond to useful sites of these departments.

These ideas have been therefore separated into two lists merely based on emphasis, rather than on exclusivity.

ASSESSMENTS

· MAA (Student Assessment in Undergraduate Mathematics) Guidelines for Assessment: Contains a vast array of examples, guidelines and suggestions for the SLOAC process on the program and course level, including classroom techniques. Everyone in the department should look at this site!

· California Assessment Institute: A great resource for definitions, SLOs, rubrics. There are numerous links to other related websites.

· Math Forum Assessment Resources 1: Many papers and alternative assessment techniques described. Bibliography.

· Classroom Assessment Techniques (CATS) for math: From the National Institute of Science Education. Many pre-prepared alternative assessment forms and techniques. A good source of inspiration, if not usefulness. There are also ideas for collaborative learning.

· Math Forum Assessment Resources 2: Oriented toward K-12 curriculum, but relevant for our basic skills courses.

· Mathematics Assessment Resource Service (MARS): Has sample classroom assessment and a good book we should get. K-12 oriented, however.

· Books on assessment: A list of books we might purchase for specific assessment ideas and samples for basic skills courses.

· Skidmore College Assessment: General resources for developing an assessment plan for all disciplines. Example plans and SLOs.
