Pat received his B.A. in Math with minor in Physics from UC San
Diego and his M.A. in Math from UC Santa Barbara. In addition to
teaching Math, Pat likes to travel a lot. He prefers to explore
wilderness areas by way of hiking and kayaking. His favorite
travel destinations are Mediterranean Europe (Southern Spain, Provence,
Italy, Greece), and backcountry Mexico - especially Baja California.
One of the stranger things that happened to Pat when traveling in
Mexico's Baja Penninsula was in summer 1994 while he was
finishing up a swim in the Sea of Cortez. Pat
left his dry shorts hanging in a small palm tree and when he put them
on he realized a scorpion had climbed into his shorts to take a nap.
The scorpion
wasn't sleeping anymore when Pat discovered it because of the sharp
sting he felt as soon as he put his dry shorts on!
