Welcome to English as a Second Language

Our award-winning ESL program offers a variety of classes in reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, listening/speaking, and accent reduction. Seven levels of ESL, from beginning to advanced, will help you improve your English skills and build your confidence on the job, in school, and in the community..

Day, evening, and weekend classes are available, with over 80 sections each semester to choose from, including distance learning courses. Our experienced, friendly, instructors will help you achieve your educational and career goals. The department’s state-of-the-art language lab is among the best in the Bay Area. The Learning and Tutorial Assistance Center provides conversation groups as well as individualized instruction. A certificate of achievement is awarded to students who complete the highest level of ESL.

In addition to our regular classes, the ESL department also partners with the Workplace Learning Resource Center (Corporate Training) for workplace ESL and the International Student Center for 9-week TOEFL preparation classes.
