A student's mental outlook can seriously affect their ability to succeed in the classroom.

Personal problems, including feelings of depression, frustration, stress, substance abuse and any number of concerns can sometimes become a cause for a student to drop a class or drop school altogether.

Mental health has an impact on physical health, as well. Some of the ailments that can be aggravated by one's mental state can include stomach problems, rashes, increases in blood pressure and headaches.

Stress, depression and family issues that can lead to physical problems are some of the common issues that can be addressed via counseling.

Personal counseling, now provided free to Mission College students, offers a free, confidential method of addressing issues before they become even more serious.

Counseling is provided by trained mental health professionals who are committed to offering a supportive environment for students. Because personal counseling takes place in the Student Health Center, students will have access to other medical professionals, as needed. Personal counseling is also available through the Counseling Center.

All sessions are confidential. Students will not be forced to divulge any information with which they are not comfortable.

Community-based resources will be offered by the counselors if a student has needs that are beyond the scope of the short-term counseling and other services available on campus.

All staff at the Health Center are committed to insuring that students obtain whatever help they require to maintain personal well-being and safety.

To schedule an appointment, call or visit the Student Health Center located in room W1-303. Their phone number is (408) 855-5140. Or call the Counseling Center at 855-5030 and tell them you need an hour counseling appointment.
