Computer Networking Technology (CNT) is a new area of development within Mission College. The eleven courses currently offered have been approved by the curriculum review process. Two additional courses will be offered in the Spring, 2002, and the remaining courses are presently under development. The college fully intends to offer a complete curriculum leading to a certificate and an Associate Degree in the Department of Computer Networking Technology.

Network and Information Technology are presently enjoying rapid growth. The demand for network professionals at all level is expected to remain high far into the future. All indications from leading network companies point to a continued shortage of qualified applicants.

This program is designed to provide entry-level skills and knowledge for those students who desire to enter the networking profession. The program also provides the necessary foundation and networking background for those who may wish to pursue further education in the networking field at a 4-year university.

The coursework is designed to give the student a broad-based and practical background in all major aspects of network technology. This includes LAN and WAN technology, routers and switches, network administration and troubleshooting, Windows NT and other widely used network operating systems, programming in Java, and emerging technologies in the networking field (such as ATM,ISDN, DSL, Fiberoptics, Broadband, and Wireless).


 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Gain a solid foundation in network technology and network administration.
  • Setup and configure PCs to be used in a networking environment.
  • Install and troubleshoot Network Operating Systems.
  • Perform basic system administration on various NOS platforms.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and design a Local Area Network.
  • Be exposed to the more recent trends in network technology.
