Computer Network Electronics Technology - CNET
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. - Arthur C. Clark
Today we can view remarkably clear pictures sent back from Mars; we can have our blood analyzed in seconds by a small machine; we can "walk" through a house that is very far away using virtual reality. All this was made possible when computers from all over the world were networked to create the Information Age. This is the "magic" that will be part of your life should you choose a course of study in Computer Electronics Networking Technology (CNET).
Make no mistake; specializing in computers and networks requires an in-depth knowledge with an extensive background in the fundamentals. That's why Technology Studies has separated them into two AS Degree courses of study: Computer Electronics Technology (CET) and Computer Networking Technology (CNT). Examine the two concentrations below to discover the unique appeal of each. San Jose State University (SJSU) and various other four-year institutions accept selected courses in both specialties for BS credit. Click on SJSU BSIT to see the full four-year program.
Computer Electronics Technology (CET)
The microprocessor—the brain of the computer—has accomplished what no other invention in history has done: it has brought a form of intelligence to everyday products. Today we have intelligent cars, intelligent TVs, intelligent refrigerators…even intelligent tennis rackets. We are literally surrounded by dozens of tireless electronic servants—and the number is growing, with no end in sight.
To your study of microprocessors, the CET program will add RF theory, A+ certification, programming, and many other related topics.
This is the amazing world that will open to you should you choose this Computer Electronics Technology option.
Computer Network Technology (CNT)
It is said that the Library of Alexandria in ancient Egypt at one time held the entire world’s collected knowledge. Today, any person with a laptop computer can do the same thing through the high speed broadband Internet. The age of networking has truly arrived.
Your in-depth study of networking will include routers, router management, wireless technology, network security and many other related topics, all supported by hands-on experience in a state-of-the-art networking laboratory.
This is the remarkable world that will open to you should you choose this Computer Network Technology (CNT) option.
Take a look at the specific courses that make up the two-year AS degree program in CET or CNT and the available career choices.
