Teaching Native Students. Studies of American Indians, while acknowledging individual differences, suggest that approaches to teaching that de-emphasize the distinction between lecturer and audience, provide opportunities for collaborative learning, tolerate some degree of silence, and include visual presentations of information and ideas, might make the classroom a more hospitable learning environment .
