Internship
Program
Note: Requirements for the internship program have changed as of Fall
2012. Please contact Melanie
Meyer to discuss options.Internships are 1-3 unit
courses that include a minimum of 40 hours of work experience (a 3-unit
class = 120 hours of work experience).
Internship courses have
been
included in some of our new certificate programs to allow students to
gain real
world experience in key areas. Current
internship classes include the following:
- MGMT

203 – Purchasing Internship

Human
Resource Internships:
- Examples
of Past Projects: workforce planning,
compensation studies, employee surveys, workers comp project/analysis,
HRIS automation/process mapping, union negotiation research, earthquake
preparedness planning, competency modeling, updating policies and
procedures, resume screening.

press releases, setup/maintain Facebook and Twitter pages,
develop social media strategy, write and edit marketing
communications materials, update website content, coordinate
email campaigns, coordinate events/webinars.

Eligibility
Students
who meet the following criteria are eligible:
1) Enrolled full-time at Mission College
and/or have completed 15 units
2) Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above
3) Completed all other core requirements for certificate program. Internship
should be taken in final semester
where student files petition to receive certificate.
4) Able to provide their own transportation at the time of application
5) Be a responsible ambassador for Mission College
to the community.

Process:
- Students are
required to identify their own internship opportunities. Faculty
advisors can make suggestions. Internship resource
sites:
- Bay Area Volunteer Information
Center - Lists Bay Area nonprofit organizations that need
volunteers to support their services. Sometimes the best way to get
experience and learn new skills is to volunteer.
- VolunteerMatch.org - The
organization offers a variety of online services to support a community
of nonprofit, volunteer and business leaders committed to civic
engagement. Listings for more than 79,000 nonprofit organizations.
- InternshipPrograms.com -
Large internship database featuring opportunities in a wide variety of
sectors across the US and other large cities across the Globe.
- Internships.com -
Extensive listings of internships from 7,000 companies, with additional
tools to help you clarify your internship goals and fine-tune your
internship search.
- Internships
USA - Access over 2,000 organizations offering internships in 12
different fields (username=interns, password=learn)
- Students can
provide potential internship sites with an overview of the internship program
for review.
- Once a site has
been identified, student should submit the name of the organization and
contact info to the site supervisor to the Faculty Advisor. The
Faculty Advisor will contact the site supervisor and confirm placement
as well as answer any further questions.
- Once placement is
confirmed, student should work with Faculty Advisor to register for the
class.
- Student must
submit a signed copy of the Student Internship
Agreement to the Faculty Advisor prior to the start of the
internship.
- An authorized
company representative is required to sign the Company
Internship Agreement.

required coursework for your certificate program.
Note:
Internships are subject to availability. As always, the
department reserves the right to substitute another course if needed.
