Men's Tennis

Mission's tennis complex is one of the finest in the state with 8 lighted courts and a practice court with an Am-Ten ball machine. Our facility has been used for Conference and Regional Tournaments including the Men's Regional Tennis Tournament was held here in 2000..

The Men's team plays a very competitive schedule within the Coast Conference and plays several strong teams preseason. Each year the team travels to the Modesto and Ojai Invitational Tournaments. In 1993 Mission won the Modesto Tournament winning in singles at the number 2, 3, 4 and 5 flights and our number 6 man lost in the finals. The team finished the tournament by sweeping all three doubles flights.

Mission has consistently qualified players for post conference play in singles and doubles. In 1998 our number one player, Jason Sugai reached the semi-finals of the Nor Cal Regional. He qualified for the State Tournament in singles and doubles with partner Joe Flores. Jason was named to the All Conference Team and was named MC Most Valuable Player. Joe was named our most Improved Player. In 1999 the team had only two returning players but still finished tied for third in the conference. Joe Flores played number 1 and qualified in doubles for the regional tournament with Freshman Jeff Williams. Our two Sophomores Joe Flores and Mitch Clapp were named to the Coast All Conference Team. Joe was named MC Most Valuable Player and Jeff was the MC Most Improved Player.

The education of our players is always our number one priority. We've had an outstanding record of players who received their degrees and/or transferred on to the university level. In 1999, Coach Nelson was named the Men's California Community College Tennis Coach of the Year. Jeff had previously been named Coast Conference Men's Tennis Coach of the Year in 1992,1993 and 1995. Jeff's goal on court is to develop players by focusing on their technique, movement and balance. He helps them set goals and maintain focus on achieving those goals. Integrity, discipline and hard work will always produce the success we desire in athletics and life.
