Career Summer Institute in Mental Health
The Career Summer Institute in Mental Health is a program to provide high school students with the opportunity to explore careers in the mental health field. The goals of the institute are:
- Students will be provided with an enriched week long-learning block that will prepare them with academic knowledge, technical skills and career exploration.
- Students will benefit from partnerships with the local mental health services organizations.
- Students will be given a wide variety of experiences in mental health services fields in order for them to make sound career choices.
- Students will raise personal expectations in terms

IV therapy and Blood Withdrawal Course
This 36 hours course prepares the Licensed Vocational Nurse in IV Therapy and Blood Withdrawal. The course content includes 27 hours of theory and 9 hours of clinical experience. Students will have the opportunity to practice techniques in the Health Occupations Skills Lab. Mission College's IV Therapy and Blood Withdrawal 36-hour course is approved by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians.
Tentatively scheduled for January 2014
NCLEX-RN Preparation Course
This 35 hour Course will:
- Assist the registered nursing program graduate in preparing to take the NCLEX-RN licensure examination.
- Provide both a nursing content review and "NCLEX-style" questions for practice.
- Focus on the critical thinking skills needed on the NCLEX-RN examination.
- Provide nursing content review based on the NCLEX-RN Test Plan.
- Provide customized classroom to meet the students' individual learning needs based on the ATI or other comprehensive predictor test.
The student will:
- Complete computerized interactive exercises.
- Receive an NCLEX-RN Examination Comprehensive Review Text Book.

Men in Nursing Workshop
The Health Workforce Initiative of the California Community Colleges' Economic and Workforce Development Program would like to announce a workshop for Men in Nursing. This one day workshop will feature Professor Chad O'Lynn, RN, PhD, author of Men In Nursing and A Man's Guide to a Nursing Career, as the key note speaker and will provide licensed professional nurses and student nurses with an opportunity to discuss factors which affect men as nurses. Upon completion of this workshop, the nurse will be able to:
- Identify two challenges, biases, and/or barriers to professional practice specific to men in nursing.
- Identify and discuss a concern regarding transition to practice for men in nursing.
- Identify and discuss two concepts related to professional development for men in nursing.
Future of Nursing Workshop
Target audience includes students and faculty in allied health/nursing programs and educators in health care facilities. Registration brochures for the following locations will be available in March 2013
Scheduled for Saturday, May 11, 2013 from 9:30 am to 2pm at Mission College in TAV 130
