Intensive English Program

Mission College has an intensive English language program for international students who need more English preparation before they begin their degree programs. It is called the Institute for International Studies, or IIS. In IIS, you can achieve the English skills you need for college work.

Features
  1. We have 5 entry dates each year: early February, March, June, early September and October. Students receive 20 hours of instruction per week in all of the skill areas: reading, writing, grammar, listening, speaking, pronunciation that is taught in our new Language Lab, and TOEFL Preparation.
  2. Students who enter IIS in September or Febryary usually enroll for the entire 16-week semester. However, you can also enter in October, March or June for one of our 8-week sessions.
  3. We provide the Institutional TOEFL free-of-charge to our students in May, July and December. You can also use our score to enter our sister college, West Valley College, in Saratoga, California.
  4. In addition, we have a No-TOEFL Option. If you complete our highest level with A's and B's and complete the 16-week semester, you do not need a TOEFL score to attend Mission College or West Valley College. We call this the LINK Program.
  5. Classes are Monday-Thursday with special classes and electives on Fridays. Classes meet between 9:20 a.m. and 3:20 p.m. All of our classes are on this campus.
  6. Our classes have between 12-17 students, and we have 4 levels.
  7. All of our instructors are highly experienced and have at least a Masters Degree. Many have taught overseas.
  8. We have many clubs on campus, including our International Student Club so that students can make friends and have fun!
  9. IIS is a member of AAIEP, the American Association of Intensive English Programs.
