Preparing for Childbirth / Infant Care Classes

  • Bring 2 pillows and a mat (yoga mat or an oversized towel) to your class meetings.
  • Please, no children.
  • All classes in the Expectant and New Parent series are presented by Certified Childbirth Educators or Pediatric RN's and can be taken any time during the third trimester.

SERIES COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

-> Classes offered at Mission College:

Preparing for Childbirth This one day class is designed to prepare expectant parents for labor and birth. Topics include practice of breathing and relaxation techniques, positions for comfort, pain management options, advocacy, role of support person and what to expect before, during and after delivery. Recommended time to take this class is the third trimester of pregnancy.(20-24 weeks)

Search, Register and Pay for Childbirth Classes

Refresher and Extended Practice This two hour class will provide additional instruction and practice of positions, breathing, relaxation, massage and comfort techniques especially for couples expecting their second child and those who may be considering a natural labor. Expectant parents are required to have previously attended a Childbirth Preparation class.

Infant CPR Birth to 1 Year New and expectant parents learn skills in this two hour class that will enable them to recognize basic infant emergencies such as sudden respiratory/cardiac arrest and choking, and how to respond to them. Students participate in hands-on practice using infant manikins. No certification is given.

Registration Policies and Procedures

Refer to the online class schedule for dates, times & places, and class section number - it is suggested that you choose a class that concludes three weeks prior to your delivery date.

Please choose your class wisely as there is limited space. Changes can only made due to special circumstances.

Note:

Changes can only be made with a valid reason within 48 hours of the start of class

and may require documentation. A $10 non-refundable seating fee is included in the

cost of the course. Refunds will not be issued after the class date.

Should you deliver your baby prior to the class date, please call

us within two weeks to ask for a refund.

Note: For couples/partner registration, register mother only. Each mother will bring her partner to class.

2. Register by fax, phone or walk ins:

We put your application in the order in which it was received for the following methods of registration. If you want to assure you are registered in your desired date instantly, please proceed to online registration.
 

  • Fax a photocopy of your completed registration form page from the (pdf) to (408) 855-5480. Please include payment information - registration will not be completed without payment information.

  • Walk-in. Walk-ins are welcome M-F, 9:00am-4pm.

Cancellation of classes: Participants will be contacted by phone if a class is cancelled. If we are unable to place you into another class, a full refund will be issued. Students need to cancel their class no later than 48 hours prior to the class date. No refund will be issued for failure to cancel in advance .There is a $10 non-refundable seating fee per class.
