New Students are advised to submit their official transcripts to the Admissions & Records Office:

Admissions & Records Office, 3000 Mission College Blvd., Santa Clara, CA 95054-1897

***Official Transcripts from California Colleges/Universities are reviewed and instructional departments' PREREQUISITE courses are cleared. Out of state/United States transcripts must be reviewed by the Counseling Center. See below. ***

What is a PREREQUISITE? What is a COREQUISITE? What is an ADVISORY?

PREREQUISITE: A class or skill that is required before you can enroll into a preferred class(es).
COREQUISITE: A class that you must take at the same time you take a preferred class, as a condition of enrolling into the preferred class(es).
ADVISORY: A class or skill that is strongly recommended before you enroll into a preferred class(es).

What if my class requires a PREREQUISITE?

Students seeking to enroll in any class that requires a PREREQUISITE, must complete one of the following:

  • complete the PREREQUISITE class at Mission College, OR
  • complete a placement test (for Math, Reading, English and ESL only). See the Assessment Center for placement test information), OR

  • challenge the PREREQUISITE through one of the following:
    1. if you attended another California college(s)/university(ies):
      1. send your official transcript(s) to the Admissions and Records Office (Admissions & Records Office, 3000 Mission College Blvd., Santa Clara, CA 95054-1897), OR
      2. email/fax your unofficial transcript(s) AND a copy of a photo ID (ie: CA driver’s license, college ID or other government issued ID) to Student Enrollment and Services email: seas.center@wvm.edu / fax: 408.855.5478.

PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO THE INCREDIBLY HIGH NUMBER OF REQUESTS, THIS PROCESS CAN TAKE 5-10 BUSINESS DAYS.

Your request is considered complete if you included the following:

        1. a copy of your transcript AND
        2. your Mission College ID number AND
        3. a copy of a photo ID (i.e., CA driver's license, college ID or other government issued ID) AND
        4. the name of the specific prerequisite course(s) you are trying to clear.

Unfortunately, at this time, high school courses, courses taken outside of California, as well as courses that are "in progress" CANNOT be processed through the Student Enrollment and Services Center. You MUST take those transcripts to the Mission College Counseling Office to get a Prerequisite Challenge Form.

If, after your prerequisites have been cleared, you are still unable to register for your class, or if you have additional questions regarding the Prerequisite Challenge process, contact the Counseling Office at 408-855-5030.
